Moving forward...
It's been a good while since I last posted. Issue 2 of Humanity was due out as I remember, and now as I sit here today, I realise what a road it has been. In the coming weeks - March 2025 - issue 5 of Humanity, the respected journal of documentary photography and written articles, will be published. It has grown in both style and acceptance, photographers regularly approach us - at the CBDP - hoping to publish their work. What fantastic work it is, for the most part. And what a pleasure it is to be able to show the work in the magazine. For those yet to get a copy, here's a shorty link, rb.gy/9sl6m that you can also easily share. If you like reading and photojournalism, you will like this. While working on issue 4 I managed to break my wrist, and now have a cyst and require surgery. This has been put back already and so, life is a bit of a struggle. Having an old, clockwork camera isn't helping either, carrying the damn thing around aggravates my wrist. Last year also saw me working on a truly important story, that being the Covid Vaccine Injured. I met up with Charlet Crichton of UKCVFamily, a really nice person, with a big heart and tremendous courage too. She is the Founder of UKCVFamily, herself injured by the C-19 vaccine. You can now read all about this online, as back issues of Humanity magazine and other pieces of photojournalism, from around the globe, are published as free reads on the CBDP website. Here's a link direct to the Covid Vaccine Injured article.2024 was also important as I made, what I feel, were several strong images for the ongoing project from the Coastal towns of North Devon, England. I also met, interviewed and photographed Paul Blacker, a highly regarded surfboard designer and shaper. Paul was just days away from retiring from a long career and represents the last of the old school Master Shapers, who worked entirely by hand. We shared surf stories, doubts about the modern scene and of course, got his vital insights and a moving moment as we talked about the death of his friend and arguably, one of the U.K.'s best ever surfers. You can see the work on the CBDP website here.
